You might ask, “where do I go for complete solitude?” Or “where can I find a natural, scenic spot to get away from it all and recharge my spirit and my faith?” For me, that spot is Camp Pecometh in Centreville, Maryland.
Taking a walk in the stillness of day, you look up and don’t see a cloud in the sky. Except for a plane in the distance, a few birds chirping, and leaves rustling, you hear no sound. You absorb the serene surroundings, relishing the feeling of being in a secluded haven that stands apart from the bustling reality to which you’re accustomed.
You notice three or four chickenhawks fly above you. As you come to the intersection of Jack Elliot Way and Pecometh Drive, you observe the rows of trees encircling you from practically all sides leaving a vast expanse of open field in the center.
Beyond the Riverview Retreat Center, you notice past the trees–calm, sunlit Chester River. Sitting at a small green bench near the water’s edge, the small waves gently lap against the shoreline.
Then, back at the retreat center, as you relax in the lounge with a journal, a pen, and a couple of books, your gaze occasionally rests upon a white cross standing tall amidst the green grass.
Camp Pecometh is a place for spiritual renewal, reflection, solitude, prayer, and a time to recharge before you head back to the old routine.
If you are a person of faith, you might want to find out what spiritual retreat centers might be near you for a similar opportunity.
